WPMNews.com – Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to take revenge if the United States withdraws from the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Force (INF) Agreement . In his threat, he stressed that Moscow now has hypersonic missiles that cannot be intercepted by the American missile defense system.

The Kremlin leader, as quoted by Reuters on Tuesday (11/20/2018), said Moscow would not allow Washington’s decision to unilaterally withdraw from the nuclear weapons agreement without being answered. Nevertheless, he feels his country does not need to be dragged into a new arms race.

“Now, we have hypersonic weapons capable of penetrating missile defense,” Putin said, referring to Russia’s latest weapons .

President Putin also called on the government and military officials to develop “concrete steps” that Russia could take in response to the US withdrawal from the INF Agreement.

Russia, Putin continued, is still ready to continue dialogue with the US regarding a bilateral agreement that prohibits medium-range missiles which are also one of the pillars of nuclear disarmament.

“However, the US must treat this problem with full responsibility,” Putin said at a meeting with Russian defense officials in Sochi, on Monday, reported by Russia Today .

US President Donald Trump has accused Russia of violating the INF agreement so that it wants to withdraw Washington from the agreement. However, Moscow has its own views about who actually violates.

Putin said that Russia had warned the US not to abandon the anti-ballistic missile (ABM) agreement governing the missile system and warned Washington of possible retaliation from Moscow.

He ensured that his country would continue to modernize its military equipment.

Putin hopes that “common sense” will prevail and the US will continue dialogue with Russia in the areas of strategic stability and collective security on the basis of mutual responsibility.

Moscow officials warn that if the US is determined to get out of the INF Treaty, it could undermine the entire nuclear non-proliferation system, and bring nuclear war closer.
